The TAG Heuer Grand CARRERA is a new premium collection of superlatively sophisticated timepieces inspired by the spirit of modern GT cars. Innovative and contemporary, its draws its DNA from the classic TAG Heuer Carrera collection born in 1964 and consistently reinterpreted ever since to become a TAG Heuer icon. In 1911, TAG Heuer introduced the “Time of Trip”, the first dashboard for sports cars. In 1933 with the “Autavia”, a name standing for Automobile-Aviation, TAG Heuer introduced a revolutionary dashboard it would manufacture for more than 30 years. In 1964, TAG Heuer unveiled the first Carrera mechanical chronograph, a stunning masterpiece inspired by professional motor racing’s most grueling road race, the legendary Carrera Panamericana. But the legendary Carrera wasn’t the first example of TAG Heuer drawing inspiration from motor racing.

The Swiss watchmaking legend’s authentic link to motor-racing sports through its timekeeping activities, famous brand ambassadors and team sponsoring—from Juan-Manuel Fangio in the 1950s to Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton in 2007, and from F1 team Scuderia Ferrari in the 1970s to Vodafone-McLaren-Mercedes today—has always powered its unique creative drive, producing some of the most innovative and prestigious timepieces and timekeeping devices in history. The prestigious and pioneering history of the TAG Heuer Carrera began in the pits and paddocks of the racing circuit, and it continues to be one of the driving forces behind the brand today.

It all started in 1962 when Jack Heuer, who was serving as timekeeper in the Twelve Hours of Sebring, met two young and talented drivers, the Rodriguez brothers. They told him about a legendary race: the Carrera Panamericana Mexico Road Race. He was immediately struck by the name Carrera, which in his words, was “dynamic, elegant, easily pronounced in all languages and charged with emotion."

In 1964, he launched the first timepiece to carry the Carrera name. Since then, it has enjoyed timeless popularity and is now one of TAG Heuer most iconic and best selling series.

With the TAG Heuer Grand CARRERA, TAG Heuer projects the Carrera DNA and spirit into the 21st century, with a bigger, bolder and better combination of design and technology than ever before, Inspired by motor racing’s never-ending rollout of technical and aesthetic innovations, TAG Heuer’s award-winning R&D team began working on the Grand Carrera project in 2005. The goal was not to substitute the iconic Carrera, but to expand it into new watchmaking territories and technologies, bringing it more in line with contemporary motor-racing styling and performance in general, and GT cars in particular.
