Complication inédite directement issue de la créativité et du savoir-faire de la Maison, la montre Midnight in Paris reproduit la carte des étoiles dans le ciel de Paris. Les complications des mouvements de Haute Horlogerie ont traditionnellement pour objectif de se rapprocher de l’infiniment précis. La complication s’ouvre ici à de nouvelles dimensions : celles de l’infiniment grand, du mystère d’un monde inexploré, du rêve, du voyage vers l’immensité ...

La montre Midnight in Paris, reproduit la carte de la voûte céleste grâce à un disque rotatif en verre aventuriné Le mouvement qui anime ce joyau horloger est visible grâce à un fond saphir lui-même protégé par un clapet mobile en or rose. Au dos de la montre, le disque entourant le calendrier est serti de véritable météorite.

Van Cleef & Arpels a déjà créé pour les femmes des montres à complication où la notion du temps était liée à celle de la nature ; une nature éblouissante habitée de créatures délicates et poétiques. Aujourd’hui, la Maison offre aux hommes le génie de l’extrême complexité du mouvement mécanique qu’elle dédie au Cosmos, ce monde inconnu et envoûtant, magique et mystérieux où les étoiles brillent à l’infini.

Des matériaux d’exceptions

Le Verre Aventurine
Un verrier vénitien de Murano fit un jour tomber par hasard (a l’aventura, en italien) de la limaille de cuivre dans une matière vitreuse en fusion. Il obtint une pâte verte et iridescente, et vendit ce verre sous le nom d’aventurine. Le minéral ne fut découvert que par la suite. On lui attribua le même nom à cause de sa ressemblance avec ce qui doit s’appeler désormais "verre aventuriné".

Météorite
La météorite dont est issue la matière utilisée pour la montre est âgée de 4,5 milliards d’années, cet âge marquant la formation de la « matière solide primaire » ; les météorites constituent la seule matière physique connue contenant des informations expliquant la création des éléments du système solaire

L’histoire de Murano

Murano est la plus grande île de la lagune, à 1 km au nord de Venise. Tradition millénaire de l’île de Murano, l’art du verre est encore pratiqué par des maîtres verriers qui perpétuent des gestes immuables. Murano était jadis mondialement reconnue pour la qualité de son verre et fournissait les vitres les plus grandes et les plus claires d’Europe, mais aussi les tesselles de mosaïques destinées à décorer la basilique Saint-Marc.

The universe at your wrist

A new complication born of the creativity and know-how of the Maison, the Midnight in Paris timepiece represents the map of stars under the Parisian sky. The mechanical movement is unique, its extreme complexity linking the concept of time to that of the Cosmos as a dazzling homage to that other mysterious and fascinating world.

The complication mechanisms developed for Fine Watch making traditionally tend towards the infinitely precise. In this case, the new complication explores new dimensions: that of the infinitely great, of an unexplored world, of dreams, of a voyage into immensity...

The Midnight in Paris timepiece recreates the map of the celestial dome thanks to a rotating disk made of aventurine glass. The mechanism of this jewel-like timepiece is visible thanks to a sapphire glass case back that is protected by a pink gold moveable flap. On the back of the timepiece, the disk surrounding the calendar is set with real meteorite stone.

Van Cleef & Arpels has already created timepieces for women where the complication linked time to nature: a dazzling natural world inhabited by delicate and poetical creatures. Today, the House offers to men the genius of an extremely complex mechanical movement dedicated to the Cosmos; an unknown and spellbinding world, full of magic and mystery where the stars shine into infinity.

Exceptional Materials

Aventurine Glass
One day, a Venetian glassmaker accidentally (a l’aventura, in Italian) dropped copper shavings in a molten mass of glass. The result was an iridescent green glass paste, which sold under the name of “aventurine”. The mineral was only discovered subsequently and was given the same name because it resembled what had now become commonly known as “aventurine glass”.

Meteorite
On the back of the Midnight in Paris watch, the disk surrounding the calendar is set with real meteorite. The meteorite used for the watch is 4.5 billion years old, the time that marked the formation of “primary solid matter”. Indeed, meteorites are the only known physical material containing information that explains the creation of the elements of the solar system.

The History of Murano

Murano is the largest island in the lagoon, one kilometre north of Venice. It is actually five tiny islands linked together and is crossed, like Venice, by a Y-shaped Grand Canal, edged with quays lined with old dwellings, modest for the most part and a few rare palaces including the Palazzo Da Mulà. Seen from a distance, the island appears to be surrounded by a fortress wall but, which, on closer inspection turn out to be the foundries.

The millennial tradition of the island of Murano, the art of glass, is still practised by master glassmakers who passed on the immutable gestures of their forefathers. Murano was once renowned the world over for the quality of its glass and supplied the largest and clearest windows of all Europe. The tesseras also used to decorate the Basilica di San Marco.
